Mastering the Harness
so today i took joker on his first "technical" walk. i had to buy a special harness so that it wouldnt irritate the mass in his neck. he did really good, besides the part where he drug me all over the yard. he was too busy being nosey and eating grass to pose for a picture, but i snapped a couple of candid shots.
he seems to be feeling a lot better now that its been a couple of days since he got his rabies shot. the mass is still there, and i dont know if its my imagination or not but it seems to be bigger. its still not affecting his energy or his mood, which is a very good sign.
i spoke with the veterinarian this morning, and his surgery is scheduled for tuesday morning at 8am. he cant eat anything after 5pm monday, and the surgery is going to take a while. we wont be able to pick him up until after hours because the anesthesia is going to have to wear off. when the mass is removed, the veterinarian is going to test it to see if they got it in time to remove all the cancerous cells. that will be what determines if he has to have post surgical treatment [chemo or radiation therapy]. we are going to be busy doggy-proofing the house while hes there since he likes to get into everything.
because his immune system is going to be off for a while we're going to have to keep him inside for a week or so. that should be plenty of time to get the test results back and know where we're going to go from there. i'll try to update over the next few days with better pics and a video.
